Ever wonder why “deadly sins” are called “deadly sins”? It must be because they are …well …deadly. Capable of destroying you. Take for instance, PRIDE. It might just be the deadliest of all sins.
Why do you think that is?
In Proverbs 6:16-19, God lists 7 things He hates, and the first one He lists is, that’s right, PRIDE. He actually says that pride is detestable to Him. Got that? Detestable. Is it detestable to you? We mean Your pride, not the pride you see in other people. Don’t get us wrong. That’s detestable too, but your pride is the only one you can do something about.
We have to confess that more often than not, our pride is something we excuse, not detest. Be honest now. You do the same thing, don’t you? But the truth is, if we excuse our pride instead of detesting it, it will destroy us. It will destroy you. Your marriage. Your relationship with your family…friends…coworkers. Even with God.
It will keep you from accepting and admitting wrong. From feeling sorry for your actions. From feeling empathy for others. It will leave you alone and bitter and miserable. See why God detests pride? And why you should too?
So here are the most important nine words you need to know. Memorize them. Use them often. Here they are. “I was wrong. I am sorry. Please forgive me.”
