Cure for Bitterness
Forgiveness…might just be the most beautiful word in the English language. Since all we wrote about last month was fighting and anger, fuedin’ and fussin,’ it’s about time to talk about how to stop all that and find resolution and reconciliation. And that’s where forgiveness comes in.
You see, if we don’t forgive, the acid of our bitterness will eat us alive. It will steal every bit of our joy and cripple us emotionally. Ha…you thought your unforgiveness punished your offender, didn’t you? Nope, it punishes you!
You might even say forgiveness is a selfish act, one that sets YOU free. But Oh, it’s hard to let go of the offense, even when you believe it is for your own good. So here’s what you have to remind yourself – forgiveness is not an emotion. It is an act of your will. A choice you can make regardless of what your heart says.
Who do you need to forgive today? If you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins. (Mark 11:25)
